See what students are saying about practicing at Elemental...

Nancy makes yoga accessible for people of varying abilities. My yoga journey with Elemental began as a novice and continued through two sports injuries. Nancy was attentive to my individual limitations and created space for me inside of class to recover. Her attentiveness to her yogis would be hard to match anywhere else.

While rehabbing a serious foot injury, my p/t suggested yoga as way to regain necessary intrinsic strength and flexibility. Nancy and her practice has been instrumental in helping guide me back to and beyond a full recovery. Her attention to detail and gentle, yet persistent encouragement is inspiring and supportive. The community brought together by Nancy’s practice is supportive and encouraging. I look forward to class not only for the physical benefits, but for the welcoming atmosphere Nancy inspires. Namaste.

I love classes at Elemental Yoga studio. I am not naturally flexible and some yoga poses were initially very difficult for me. But Nancy explains so well the body positions, how to use the props and make accommodations that I always feel comfortable and enjoy the class. Although I am proud of how much progress I have made over the years, Nancy helped me to realize it’s the process - the practice of yoga - that is fulfilling; not achieving a level of accomplishment in the poses.

I really love how Nancy continually evolves the class. Even after taking the class for years she still surprises me with new poses or new sequences. It’s never the same and I feel I am continually learning and being challenged just the right amount. She is very attune to the needs of her students and adjusts the focus of the class accordingly. At times the focus is more on stretching; other times strength or balance. With strength she rotates the focus from the core, arms, legs and will augment to address an area of the body a student is having issues with. When it’s a stressful, busy time of year she will take some time to emphasize breathing and relaxation. She adjusts the class based on the seasons - sometimes a quieter session, sometimes more movement. All this means that the classes are very dynamic and never repetitive.

The personal attention I get at Elemental Yoga is wonderful. Because class sizes are small, Nancy is able to give personal attention to every person, making the tiny adjustments that help us get the poses exactly right. It also means she can adapt the class on the fly to meet the needs of the people who are there that day: restorative, focus on core, focus on back, more or fewer inversions. I’ve made some good friends there and learned a lot about Oak Park and its schools. I love it!

I have taken yoga classes in a number of health clubs as well as private studios. I have never taken a class that comes close to comparing to Nancy’s. She puts a great deal of thought and effort into her classes, and it shows: the class flows and is paced perfectly. She is attuned to the needs of her students and ensures that they each get the workout that they need, providing gentle corrections and guidance when needed. She is intentional about every aspect of her craft, from the music, to the season, to the placement of the equipment. She is a true gem, and her class is a gift.

I am a massage therapist and long time yoga client of Nancy’s. I thoroughly enjoy the relaxed, yet thoughtful tone of her classes. It’s a bonus to me that the classes are small, as that allows them to become very personal.
Her ability to meet clients at their own yoga comfort level is one reason why I frequently refer my massage clients to her. Her knowledge of anatomy allows her to be very skilled at adapting poses to accommodate each individual’s needs, both physical and spiritual.
Highly recommend!
